America is our home.
For the Asian American community, and for everyone who believes this country belongs to all of us. We're under attack, and too many of us aren't ready. If you love your home, you defend it.
Who we are — by the numbers
- 1 in 4
- Houston-area residents who are immigrants — about 1.7 million people.
- 2 million
- Asian Texans are the state's fastest-growing group
- 59%
- Share of Gulfton, right here in the district, born outside the U.S.
- SB 147
- The 'alien land law' Gene helped beat — to keep Texas open to all of us.
For months I've traveled the country talking with our community and our leaders, and I've come away with one concerning conclusion: too many of us don't see the dangers coming, and we are not ready to fight them.
We don't have to stand for this. We can fight back. Join me — let's educate our community, organize, and move people to action. America is our home. If you love your home, you're willing to defend it. Let's go.
This is already happening.
These aren't hypotheticals. They're happening now, across the country.
Alien land laws
Bills to bar people from owning a home or land based on their nationality — moving through Texas and other states.
The end of H-1B
Cancelling H-1B visas cut off families, employers, and the next generation's access to the American dream.
Restrictions on work & school
New limits on who can hold certain jobs or enroll at public universities — aimed at immigrants and their children.
Anti-Desi legislation
Anti-Desi sentiment and Indian hate are showing up in bills all over the nation.
Islamophobia & anti-Sharia laws
Anti-Sharia laws and bans on religious dress single out Muslim Americans for who they are and how they worship.
More hate, more violence
If we don't push back, the bullies hear that we won't — and that only brings more harassment, more hate, and more violence.
These attacks are connected — and so are we.
The same legislators writing alien land laws are writing anti-Sharia laws. The same maps drawn to dilute Asian American votes were drawn to dilute Black and Latino votes. Other communities are already fighting back — and if any one of us stands alone, we get picked off one at a time. This isn't about asking America to protect Asian Americans. It's about all of us defending an America that belongs to everyone!
Gene isn't waiting — he's already in this fight.
Not photo-ops. A record of showing up — on the floor, at the Capitol, and in our communities.

Told the truth
Put his family's Cultural Revolution story on the record to warn what creeping authoritarianism really looks like.
Organized the South
Building AAPI political power across Texas and the South — year-round, not just at election time.
Leads the Caucus
Chairs the Texas House Democratic Caucus.
Shows up
