After the GOP’s redistricting map (House Bill 4) cleared a House committee on a party-line vote — over testimony that ran 98.8% against — at least 51 Democrats left Texas for Illinois and other blue states, denying the House the quorum it needed to pass the map.

From a Chicago suburb, Wu blasted Abbott for advancing the map while relief for the deadly July 4th Central Texas floods waited, accusing the governor of using grieving families “as hostages in a political game.”
